Margaret Rose Sacuta (nee McMillan)

April 2, 1939 - January 3, 2025

 

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Rose Sacuta on January 3, 2025 at the age of 85 years and nine months.

She will be lovingly remembered by son Walt (Jacquilyn) and daughters Peggy, and Gayle (Jim); grandchildren, Jane (Kevin), Kelsey, William, Leo and Oliver; great-grandchild Julia; sister-in-law Dorothy Sacuta and extended family of nieces, nephews and their children.

 

She was predeceased by husband Nick Sacuta, brother Bruce McMillan, twin sister Agnes Fisher, sister-in-law Mildred McMillan. 

 

Margaret was born during an April snowstorm in 1939, in a farmhouse between Gadsby and Botha, to parents Elsie (McLeod) and Perrin McMillan. She grew up on the family farm and attended Ingleton School, often arriving on horseback, attended Botha School and Lindsay Thurber High School in Red Deer. After graduating from the University of Alberta as a teacher, Margaret taught Byemoor School grades 5-6, class of 1957 - 1958. She also taught in Donalda, Waverly, and as a substitute teacher in the County of Stettler.

 

At age 21 Margaret married Nick Sacuta of Leo, in the Byemoor area.  Together they built their family farm, raising three children.  Margaret returned to teaching between 1978 - 1991, shining in her role as the ECS (Kindergarten) teacher for the Byemoor/Endiang community.

 

Margaret was a member of the Byemoor Ladies Home Circle Cemetery Club for over 50 years, taking on leadership positions and organizing many a Strawberry Tea. In later years Margaret moved to town, to Spruce Terrace condo where she lived until March of 2024. Most recently she resided at Points West Living, Stettler.
