Margaret Bossert

October 29, 1921 ~ June 2, 2024

Margaret was welcomed into the world on Oct.29, 1921, the youngest child of Rose and Richard Thornton, and sister to older siblings Harold and Hilda.

“Home” was the farm, 2 miles west of Coronation, a hub of activity with dairy cows, chickens, large gardens and busy social activities with neighbouring families.

She attended school in Coronation at the big red brick schoolhouse and loved getting there on a Shetland pony named Peter Pan.  She was the envy of all of the town kids. After leaving school Margaret stayed at home to help out for awhile and then took a position at the Coronation Service Store, working long hours from 9am to after midnight many times for just $10.00 per week.

On April 26, 1943 Margaret married Ed Bossert in Castor, Alberta.  They farmed 11 miles south of Coronation for 31 years.  The work was hard but very rewarding. In 1952 they were blessed with the arrival of a son, Dennis.

In 1974 Margaret & Ed sold the farm and moved to Coronation to a home conveniently close to the school.  Margaret worked at the school helping the Brusky’s, in janitorial and continued there until they retired in 1981. She also helped out at Stokes Agencies 3 days a week.

Margaret enjoyed travelling over the years, taking trips to England, Scotland, Wales, Alaska, Ontario & the Maritimes as well as numerous trips to BC.

Ed and Margaret celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1993 and enjoyed another 3 years together until Ed’s passing in 1996.

At this point in her life Margaret filled her days with volunteering at the Hospital Gift Shop, Memorial Library and the Drop-In Center.  Her favourite commitment however was the Order of the Royal Purple.  She never missed a meeting with the group and received her life time membership after 32 years and during this she held all offices of the Order and enjoyed them all.

Margaret moved from her house to the condo in 2008.  She continued to enjoy visiting with friends and staying active in the community.  She was truly honoured to be chosen as the Centennial Queen of Coronation in 2011 along with Bill Duncan as King when the Town celebrated their 100th Anniversary.

In 2015 due to health concerns, Margaret became a resident at DSL in Coronation.  She enjoyed her new location, with Bingo becoming a #1 activity. She also enjoyed playing cards, becoming a worthy contender in Quiddler and also to play Scrabble.   She developed many close friends with fellow residents, and she had many endearing relationships with DSL staff & Home Care.

Margaret is survived by her only son Dennis (Sheila); grandchildren Sheldon Bossert, Shauna (Blair) Bossert and Deryk (Danielle) Bossert; great grandchildren: Jarrett, Ciara, Madison, Carrson, Braidyn, Jaxon, Kiptyn, Griffyn; as well as other relatives and many dear friends.

Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband Ed; parents Rose & Richard Thornton; brother Harold Thornton; sisters-in-law Gladys Thornton and Bertha Thornton; sister Hilda Munro and brother-in-law John Munro; and a very special niece and her husband Shirley & Vern Fletcher.
