Obituary of Edith Louise Schmidt
Edith Louise Schmidt passed away peacefully on December 5, 2017 in Stettler, Alberta at the age of 83 years.
Edith was born on August 12, 1934 and raised in Herbert, Saskatchewan, one of seven children. The family moved to Botha, Alberta where she graduated and entered a nursing aide program. Edith married and moved to the Petersen family farm for the next 38 years working on the farm raising 7 children. She loved gardening, flowers, sewing, being a 4-H leader and teaching her children her many talents both inside and outside her home. In later years she moved to Stettler and continued working at Heritage House, gardening, joining the Red Hatters and volunteering at the second hand store for fun. She loved a good cup of coffee. Up until a short time ago, Edith was able to watch the yearly harvest on her land, garden at her home and sit in her yard enjoying the birds. Mom loved children, visiting, and reading books.
Edith is survived by her loving children: Norine Petersen (Spencer Ross), Karen Symes, Gwen (Bill) Thompson, Leslie Dianne Petersen (Kris Johnsen), Lyle (Dianne) Petersen, Carol Verhoeven and Don (Kerry) Petersen; fourteen grandchildren: Shane Bogath, Cory (Ashley) Bogath, Julie Symes, Teressa Symes (Shawn Schwartz), Paula (Bruce) Balog, Rachel (Clint) Harrowing, Stuart Thompson, Zachary Petersen, Patty Verhoeven, Sarah Verhoeven, Erica Verhoeven, Frans Verhoeven, Alycia Petersen and Brady Petersen; five great grandchildren: Benjamin, Jackson, Emily, Will and Charlotte; brothers and sisters: Clifford Schmidt, Ruth (George) Ginn, Alana (Garth) Gill, Esther (Doug) Bergen and Steven (Kathy) Schmidt; sisters-in-law Joan Lepard and Edna Schaefer; brother-in-law Brian (Betty) Petersen and cousin Lavane Cowie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of many wonderful friends.
Edith was predeceased by her parents Carl and Delia Schmidt; sister Georgia McArthur; brothers-in-law John McArthur, Harold Lepard and Bob Schaefer; father of her children Leslie Petersen; and son-in-law Rick Galleberg.
Celebration of Life will be held at the Stettler Funeral Home on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Barbara Lieurance officiating.
